“The crowds asked John the Baptist, what should we do?  He said to them in reply, whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none.”

– Luke 3:11

QLQA Student Council collected warm coats in all styles and sizes for those in need, Monday, February 6th through Friday, February 10th. All coats that were collected were distributed by SPIN (Serving People In Need, who have seen the homeless numbers grow by 50% this year). Thank you so much to all that donated to this worth cause.

Catholic Schools Week 2012

Written By: Feng V - Feb• 05•12

Monday, January 30th – Sunday, February 5th

Catholic Schools Week is a National Event celebrating the many blessings of a Catholic education. So many acts of kindness where exhibited throughout this precious week. Thank you to all the parents who help make Catholic School Week so special.  Our parent support is an intricate part of the fabric of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic School.

The PSA would also like to sincerely thank Kathleen Nielsen and Ashley Rodi for all the planning and hard work that went into this very special weeklong celebration.  Mrs. Rodi and Mrs. Nielsen are Chairpersons of Catholic School Week.

DAY 1 Monday (Jan. 30th) – STUDENT APPRECIATION DAY

On this day students enjoyed free dress and had a special heart shaped note from their parents and treat waiting on their desks when they arrived at school. What a special way to start their day! The kindergarteners often ponder how their parents snuck into to school and put the note on their desk!

Later that day, as part of our on-going Enrichment Program, students attended a special assembly featuring a presentation by The Imagination Machine. The Imagination Machine is a school assembly program that celebrates your student’s efforts in writing through a live performance of their short stories. Students all participated in writing and submitted a short story to be selected to be acted out. Ten stories were selected and performed on Student Appreciation Day. Congratulations to all the students for their creative ideas and to the students’ stories that were selected.

DAY 2 Tuesday (Jan. 31st) PRIESTS/ADMINISTRATION/DIOCESAN APPRECIATION DAY

On this day a special presentation was made to our School Administrators and Priests at the morning assembly and a thank you letter was sent by the PSA Board on behalf of our school to our Diocesan Staff office along with a donation in their name to St. Joseph’s Catholic School – a local Catholic School in need. Students also took the priests and the administration on a “tour of the world” with specialties from different countries.

DAY 3 Wednesday (Feb. 1st) PARENT APPRECIATION DAY & OPEN HOUSE

On this day parents are celebrated throughout the day and enjoyed visits to the students classroom at Open House. Open House allows the school to celebrate the outstanding work that is being done in their classrooms and share their hard work with their families and friends. You can really feel our strong sense of community on that evening.

DAY 4 Thursday (Feb. 2nd) – SPECIAL PERSON’S DAY

Students celebrate a special person in their life on this day. This special person joins the student at a prayer service in the church with a meal provided by parents immediately following either picnicking on the field or at tables around the school. Afterwards, the student and special person took a tour of their classroom. This was the first year that Special Person Day was separated between younger grades and upper grades due to parking limitations, but it still proved to be a lovely as in years past with all the positive remarks and enthusiasm from special persons throughout the day.

DAY 5 Friday (Feb. 3rd) FACULTY & STAFF APPRECIATION DAY

To kick off Catholic Schools Week, the administration, faculty, and staff enjoyed a breakfast each morning prepared and delivered by the PSA Board.

On this day students brought in special THANK YOU notes, cards, and pictures to their teachers and coaches.  Teachers and staff also enjoyed a lovely lunch as part of the In-Service day and were each presented with a special gift. All the cards, lunch and recognition for the teachers and staff made them feel very special!

DAY 6 Sunday (Feb. 5th) PARISH APPRECIATION DAY

On this day we thanked our wonderful OLQA parish for the enormous support and love they continue to show our school.  Students and their families were asked to attend the 8:30 am mass. We had student greeters, gift bearers, readers, altar servers and our very own school choir present. The PSA Board provided free donuts after the 7:00 am, 8:30 am and 10:00 am masses.

Holiday Outreach

Written By: Feng V - Dec• 10•11

A Schoolwide Tradition – November & December 2011

It is a tradition at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic School that each November, our students hold their annual drive to help Catholic Charities collect items for those in need.  This tradition has always been a wonderful opportunity for our students to share with those less fortunate by bringing personal hygiene items, and canned/packaged food.

During the month of December, OLQA families participated in Adopt A Family by providing gifts for needy families. Each class was responsible for supporting one family. The gifts were picked up by Catholic Charities for our eighteen families in need.

The Schoolwide Learning Expectation (SLE) that is demonstrated with this outreach is that a student of Our Lady Queen of Angels is a “Faith-Filled Catholic who responds compassionately to the needs of others.”

Thank you to all the families for your generosity and to the teachers for organizing this holiday drive!

Christmas Luncheon

“Here We Come Caroling” – December 6, 2011

Kindergarten through fourth grade performed America’s favorite Christmas carols at our annual Christmas luncheon. Thank you to Mrs. Landis, Mrs. Hoppe, and Dr. Lamb for preparing our students for this special performance. Mrs. Frank and Mrs. Otterbein graciously co-chaired this event. A big thank you to them and all the volunteers that made this special event a success!

The show concluded with the announcement of the amount raised from the auction fundraiser. The auction chairs cleverly announced the net amount of $300,646 by having students line up holding cards with the actual total.

Many thanks are extended again to Kelly Bosley and Heather Ferrero and the entire auction committee for all their fundraising efforts and spectacular evening.

Parent Parties

Written By: Feng V - Dec• 01•11

Here at Our Lady Queen of Angels, we have a tradition of throwing a party for the parents in each grade. The parties are a fun way to get to know other parents in your student’s grade. For those of you who have been here for a while, it is a chance to catch-up. What a great way to stay connected to the wonderful parents at OLQA! Thank you to our wonderful room mom’s for helping to organize these fun socials!
