First in Math – Fall 2011

In grades 2-6, OLQA has implemented a new online math program called First In Math.  Our school has chosen this outstanding educational website to help our students master fundamental and advanced mathematics skills. The students earn virtual stickers as they practice and master the skills.  As a school, we have earned over 328,909 stickers since the program began at the beginning of the school year! Keep your eye out for updates as the year goes on.

Congratulations to all our students for their hard work and determination. At time of publication we have a few 2nd graders leading our school!

Raising Scholastic Dollars – November 29 – December 1, 2011

Many thanks to Aiza Fargas and Christie McKenna for the wildly successful Scholastic Book Fair!  Thanks to their leadership and dedication, along with the many hours of service given by the volunteers, the book fair exceeded the amount sold last year and came in at over $11,000 worth of books and merchandise sold in just three days!  Approximately 40% of that amount is retained in Scholastic dollars for the library and the classrooms.  A huge thank you goes to all the students and parents who supported the fair this year.  Happy Reading!

Under the Tuscan Sun – November 19, 2011

On behalf of the OLQA Community, we would like to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to the OLQA Auction, Under the Tuscan Sun. The 2011 Auction Chairs, Kelly Bosley and Heather Ferrero graciously volunteered and spearheaded a magical evening. The auctions chairs continually said their purpose was to raise money for our students today and for the future as well as planning a wonderful evening for all of the guests.  We are so proud of the commitment to Catholic Education displayed by the chairs and all of the committee members that worked diligently for the cause.

Thank you to all the parents and friends that so generously gave to raise funds for OLQA school and our little angels!

Veteran’s Day – Friday, November 11, 2011

In observance of Veteran’s Day, OLQA students had free dress and wore red, white, and blue! The faculty and student body had special prayers and remembrances throughout the day. A highlight was a visit from three decorated veterans. These veterans gave a brief history of Veteran’s Day and spoke of how honored they are to be veterans and to have served our country.

WCEA/WASC School Accreditation Visit

Glowing report – November 2011

Six years ago Our Lady Queen of Angels School was accredited by the Western Catholic Education Accreditation and the Western Accreditation of Schools and Colleges. Last November, a team of six educational professionals visited our school for our next formal evaluation. We were well pleased with the report!  Their work here will help guide us on our path in continuing to provide the best Catholic education for our students.

Our teachers met with the accreditation team to answer any questions. As always our teachers’ dedication and professionalism made us proud as they answered thoughtfully and sincerely to all questions. Thank you to our teachers!

The accreditation team also met with students and parents. The team was most pleased with the articulation and eloquence of our students. Of course, our parents impressed the team with their strong support and deep knowledge of our school. It is with great pride that we showcased our school community. Thank you students and parents for making this WCEA/WASC Accreditation a momentous step forward for OLQA’ s future.

The Visiting Committee found their three days at our school, “professionally and spiritually rich, as well as personally rewarding. We experienced a dynamic faith community in which the SLEs are in a lived reality and your whole community considers your school’s Catholic Identity as the primary strength of the school.”
