After Mass in the Parish Hall on Thursday, September 20th, Erik Rees from The Jessie Joy Rees Foundation spoke to our school about the foundation his daughter, Jessie created to help pediatric cancer patients during their hospital stays. This was a very special day for our students to learn the kindness a child can have even during the gravest times. It also started off a yearlong OLQA Enrichment Program that our children will be participating in through May. Students will be bringing small gifts throughout the year to fill these joy jars that Carrie started in order to bring a very sick child some happiness. The first collection coincided with Red Ribbon Week’s theme, “Sock it to Drugs Day” as students brought in a new pair silly socks to put in the jar. Thank you to Jen Awad and Christine McKenna, our PSA Enrichment Chairs for bringing this opportunity to our students. Field Day
Field Day June 12, 12
Field day at our school is a time to let loose and have some fun in the sun! We have 20 different games that range from a 48-inch volleyball, hoops, ring toss, scooters, soccer, javelin throwing to balloon launching for accuracy. Two teams compete at each game for 10 minutes and the winner gets a winning ticket that goes to the scoreboard. At the end of field day the team with the most wins is crowned the champion field day team until next year. Students get to munch on nutritious snacks and yummy treats, including cotton candy and snow cones!
Congratulations to all and of course to this year’s winning team – ORANGE!
Student Enrichment
On June 7th, the students enjoyed their last enrichment activity of the school year when Team Soil came to OLQA. Students cheered on as they watched three of Team Soil’s cyclists perform thrilling stunts, one of which included jumping over five OLQA teachers!! They also reinforced the importance of bike safety, and to stay active during the summer!
